Assimilation
« supposed or expected result of the process of integration for any immigrant considering that he/she is no more presenting any distinct cultural characteristic from the common characteristics shared by the majority of the members of the host society. Assimilation, often presented as the distinctive model of the “French process of integration” has no legal basis, except in the sense that the law in matter of nationality considers the “default of assimilation” of a person as a main reason to justify a negative decision to his/her demand to acquire the French nationality : in the practice, the default of assimilation is usually understood either as being unable to speak the national language or having a matrimonial status in contradiction with the French law (for instance polygamy).
